Aplin is proud to be partnering with a growing Alberta-based consulting engineering firm to identify a skilled and experienced Construction Project Manager. This is a key leadership opportunity for a candidate who brings a strong background in managing water and wastewater infrastructure projects, both in the field and through cross-functional collaboration with engineering teams.

The Construction Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the construction phase of various water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Working closely with engineering professionals and multidisciplinary teams, the successful candidate will be instrumental in project execution, field supervision, client management, and driving quality and compliance through all phases of construction delivery.

This role is well-suited to Professional Engineers, Certified Engineering Technologists, or experienced Project Managers with a trades background and substantial site-based construction leadership experience.

Key Project Areas
Projects may include, but are not limited to:
  • Wastewater: Collection systems, lift stations, forcemains, and lagoon systems
  • Water: Intakes, storage ponds, pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities, and distribution networks
Responsibilities
  • Project Management & Execution
    • Lead and manage construction projects from kickoff to completion, ensuring adherence to budget, scope, and timelines
    • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and administrative teams to ensure project coordination
    • Oversee project forecasting, scheduling, resource planning, and earned value analysis
    • Conduct and document site inspections and field reviews
    • Manage progress reporting, project invoicing, and client updates
    • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with all construction specifications and contracts
    • Address project risks and proactively resolve construction and design conflicts
  • Team Leadership & Client Engagement
    • Provide on-site supervision of contractors and technical teams
    • Serve as the key liaison between project stakeholders, clients, and subconsultants
    • Mentor junior staff and support performance development through feedback and guidance
    • Promote a culture of professionalism, safety, and client service excellence
  • Procurement & Pre-Construction
    • Lead procurement processes including contract preparation, tendering, and evaluation
    • Assist with writing proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets
    • Review RFP documents and assist in developing project management plans
  • Construction Oversight & Documentation
    • Interpret construction documents, drawings, and technical specifications
    • Coordinate and respond to RFIs, shop drawings, and contractor inquiries
    • Monitor construction activities for adherence to quality control requirements
    • Prepare and maintain detailed construction reports, documentation, and as-built records
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a construction project management role, ideally within the water/wastewater sector
  • Demonstrated leadership on active construction sites and in project planning
  • Formal education or certification in one of the following areas:
    • Red Seal Journeyman Certification in a relevant trade
    • Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), in good standing with ASET
    • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Word, Visio, and project management software
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and ability to travel throughout Alberta as required
Working Conditions
  • Based in Edmonton with regular travel to project sites
  • Occasional overnight stays and extended field work may be required (8–12 hour days during critical phases)
