Our client, a leading manufacturer, is seeking a Technical Trainer to join their team. This role is focused on developing and delivering technical training programs—particularly in the areas of Equipment and Assembly—in support of their growing operations.
The Technical Training & Development Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating technical training programs in a manufacturing setting. This role works closely with operations leadership, internal and external trainers, and apprenticeship program representatives. The ideal candidate brings a blend of instructional design knowledge and hands-on experience to support employee development and optimize workforce performance.

The Technical Training & Development Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating technical training programs in a manufacturing setting. This role works closely with operations leadership, internal and external trainers, and apprenticeship program representatives. The ideal candidate brings a blend of instructional design knowledge and hands-on experience to support employee development and optimize workforce performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with manufacturing and operations leaders to roll out training initiatives
- Coordinate and facilitate both on-the-floor and classroom training programs
- Conduct training needs assessments through surveys, interviews, and focus groups
- Source external training partners and make recommendations for program implementation
- Administer apprenticeship programs and serve as primary liaison with governing bodies
- Lead onboarding and orientation for new hires in technical roles
- Deliver policy and procedural training; support documentation drafting
- Apply change management principles to support program implementation
- Develop innovative training solutions, including on-the-job learning approaches
- Create or source course materials, manuals, and guides
- Present content using various delivery methods: group sessions, e-learning, virtual, and more
- Maintain detailed training records and evaluate program effectiveness
- Ensure compliance of training content with relevant regulations
- Participate in broader HR initiatives as needed
- Stay current with trends in training and development
- 3–5 years of experience in training and development, preferably in a manufacturing setting
- Background in Adult Education, Engineering, or a related discipline is an asset
- Experience with developing and executing training programs in technical environments
- Proven ability to implement learning strategies using digital and traditional methods
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and instructional design skills
- Ability to train in both classroom and shop floor settings
- Effective at working cross-functionally with all levels of an organization
- Excellent time-management and prioritization skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel
- Experience with e-learning tools such as Articulate is an asset
- High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information
