Our client, a leader in their field, located in SE Calgary, is seeking a dedicated and strategic leader to step into the role of Director, Financial & Sustainability Reporting for a 14-month contract. This role is integral in managing and overseeing the accurate preparation and communication of financial and sustainability metrics, ensuring transparency and compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, or other applicable accounting standards.
- Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of financial results, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Work closely with finance teams to provide insights into financial performance and emerging trends.
Sustainability Reporting:
- Develop and manage sustainability reporting structures in alignment with established frameworks such as GRI, SASB, or other relevant guidelines.
- Collect, verify, and analyze sustainability data from multiple business units to maintain accuracy and completeness.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to support and enhance sustainability initiatives, driving meaningful improvements.
Integrated Reporting:
- Combine financial and sustainability data to present a holistic view of company performance.
- Create narratives that clearly illustrate the interconnection between financial results and sustainability commitments for a variety of stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance:
- Communicate financial and sustainability performance metrics to stakeholders, including investors, regulatory agencies, and sustainability rating organizations.
- Monitor changes in financial and sustainability reporting regulations to ensure compliance and alignment with industry best practices.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address any evolving reporting requirements.
Process Optimization & Leadership:
- Identify opportunities to enhance and streamline reporting processes for increased efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement best practices and technological advancements to improve reporting quality.
- Lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a culture of continuous growth and development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Sustainability, or a related field. Advanced degrees or professional designations (e.g., CPA, CMA, GRI) are an asset.
- Extensive experience in financial reporting, sustainability reporting, or a combination of both.
- Strong knowledge of financial principles, accounting standards, and sustainability frameworks.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements surrounding financial and sustainability reporting.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
